Welcome to the Pre-K Five's! By the age of five, the children demonstrate language skills like understanding rhyming words, using compounds, and complex sentence structure. The teachers are consistently speaking and reading to the children to provide as much vocabulary to their language skills as possible. These skills are incorporated because of the lessons and conversations provided by our well trained and educated staff. As early educators and advocates of the education for young children we understand the importance of early literacy and how it affects the child’s speech, writing, reading, and language development. We make literacy a part of their daily lives and provide many teachable moments throughout their day.
They begin to process future tense in their conversations and state their full name, birth date, and home address. When socializing they want to be like their peers, follow rules, and understand gender. The children especially want to explore and learn independently or in a group and the teachers are well prepared to meet their needs. Cognitive development is a time that five year olds begin to shine when they use their imagination to create stories, correctly count to 10 or more, copy a triangle, and other geometric patterns, and understand concept of time and sequential order. Five years olds begin to stand on one foot for at least 10 seconds, hop, gallop, and swing with the support of our teacher and the props and equipment that we provide. They begin to learn to ride a bike and coordinate materials in their hands like dribbling basketball. Their fine motor control is strengthened with writing, cutting activities, and manipulative play. Five year olds also begin to gain a sense of personal health through personal needs like washing their hands, carrying their own plate, and pouring their own drinks at meals. |
